I’m only one person, but I wear many hats: Mom, communications professional, church member, sister, friend, proud Gen Xr, and a single-lady… Who’s not all these things, right?
Let me keep it real. I am a single, Black mom out to 1) prove a point by shattering stereotypes… 2) shed light on the daily, real-life challenges me and other Black mothers face and 3) offer some safe space, room for reflection, and maybe even a little humor. I have a career that I love. I own my home. My Black, teenaged son is a 4.12 student in a visual and performing arts program, studying film… and no he does not play sports, but he is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society), his school’s Business Academy and ECO club. He also tutors elementry school kids. I am a faithful and active church member, but I have some horrible habits and I am not perfect. I cook and clean–because I have to. I’d like to get married/have a long-term partner one day (and no folks, not to my son’s father for reasons that might be explained in a blog piece).
You don’t have to be a mom, Black, single or employed to enjoy this blog. Why not? Because I’m your friend, your co-worker, you next door neighbor, and the lady behind you at the grocery store. ; ) We’re all on a journey, so I WELCOME ANYONE WHO WANTS TO RIDE ALONG!
